June President’s Message:

Memorial Day, Flag Day, the Fourth of July. This is the time of year when we’re reminded of the service and sacrifice people have made to make our country great. If you know someone who is serving or has served in the military, or as a first responder (law enforcement, fire and rescue, emergency medical services, etc.), please take the time to thank them for their commitment, sacrifice, and service. Memorial Day is particularly important in that it is the time when we honor those who had died in all U.S. wars – giving the ultimate sacrifice for our county.

On May 4 the HOA Neighborhood Watch sponsored a “donuts with a deputy” event at the Kahite entrance building. We had a good turnout – lots of people attended to show their support! The event provided an opportunity to visit with Sheriff Tommy Jones, plus many of the Monroe County Sheriff deputies and detectives who support our Kahite neighborhood. People also were able to see the facility, which the POA has recently remodeled (thank you POA!). It’s a lot bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside! The building is used by both the Sheriff’s department and the Hopewell Volunteer Fire Department for training, etc.

June 13 is our next HOA Social. Since June 14 is Flag Day, our theme will focus on “Old Glory”, the flag of the United States of America. Flag Day was established by President Woodrow Wilson in 1916 to commemorate the adoption of our Stars and Stripes as our national symbol. During the Social on June 13 our own Tellico Village VFW will be attending to demonstrate proper flag folding techniques. Also, Smoky Mountain Service Dogs will be with us to show how service dogs assist our disabled vets. On May 17 SMSD held a “passing the leash” ceremony in which a fully trained dog was presented to a very deserving veteran. This was the 58th dog that has been trained and provided to a vet! SMSD is a terrific resource here in our community. Please plan to attend the Social and learn more about them. The Social starts at 5pm at the Yacht Club.

If you have not yet signed up for our HOA Community Picnic on June 26 at the Yacht Club, it may be too late! It’s almost sold out. Take a look right away on the Tellico Life calendar if you want to attend and have not yet signed up. If you are planning to attend, remember that overflow parking will be available at the Community Church, with a free shuttle bus (plus a drink discount coupon to encourage you to park there!). I hope to see you at the picnic!

We held an Open Village Meeting on May 4 at the Community Church. The focus was on the “State of the lake”. Several organizations attended to help us with this meeting, including WATeR, TWRA, Fishing Club, and T-BART. The presentations were primarily about water quality, emergency services on the lake, and the fishery. It was a great discussion about Tellico Lake, and we all learned a lot about how our lake is doing and ways to improve it. The event was recorded and is available on Tellico Village Network’s YouTube Channel:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kAHbt6quoY

The HOA Board meets the second Monday of each month, starting at 9:30am. The Board meets at the Yacht Club (top floor) and normally there is a Zoom connection available as well. Board meetings are open for anyone to attend. Whether you have an issue to discuss with the Board or just want to listen in to see what they are up to, you are very welcome to attend! If you have an interest in serving on the HOA Board, or just want to help, please let me know. HOA is an all-volunteer organization and needs your help to allow it to continue as the great organization that it is.

I hope to see you at the June Social or the picnic.
