Gov. Lee Issues Official Call, Presents Legislative Priorities Ahead of Public Safety Special Session
The Tennessee Legislature has been called into a special session starting August 21 to focus on public safety issues. Governor Lee has identified several priorities for the session, including improving reporting processes to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), improved support of mental health, and promotion of safe storage of firearms.
Here is a link to a detailed description of the upcoming special session. Included in the notice is a link at the bottom of the page that allows people to make public comments about the proposed legislation: Gov. Lee Issues Official Call, Presents Legislative Priorities Ahead of Public Safety Special Session (tn.gov)
Please also consider contacting our legislators if you have comments or issues/concerns about other safety topics not specifically mentioned in the Governors notice that may be appropriate for this legislative session:
- District 21 (Kahite & Loudon) State Rep. Lowell Russell at: rep.lowell.russell@capitol.tn.gov
- District 2 (Kahite) State Sen. Art Swann at: sen.art.swann@capitol.tn.gov
- District 5 (Loudon) Lt. Gov. Randy McNally at: lt.gov.randy.mcnally@capitol.tn.gov
One aspect of being part of a representative democracy is that we must participate in it for it to be successful. It’s important that we, as residents of Tennessee, participate in our state legislative process. Please review the notice so that you are aware of the issues to be acted on. Take the time to provide comments either through the public comments process or directly to our legislators.
