It looks like summer is coming to an end. The weather has been so nice these past couple of days and the change from the heat and humidity is welcome. But I still hate to see summer go! And what a summer we had! Golf, raft offs, trips to Lynchburg, Gatlinburg, Brushy Mountain, restaurants, entertainment like Wendle Warner and dueling pianos, games like Singo, Bunco and Hand and Foot and the Socials – I think everyone took home a door prize (except me). The HOA held over 100 events all told.
The changing leaves brings a new season and a new focus. The HOA began its 2025 membership drive on October first. To cover operating costs, including our TellicoLife subscription, we have to raise dues. If you sign up before January 1, 2025, however, you can still get the 2024 rate of $15 per household – a great deal no matter how you look at it. Come to the free (your dues pay for them) Social in November and we’ll help you sign up.
We’re holding the annual Christmas Gala with dinner and dancing on December 17th at the Yacht Club. It will take the place of the Social and is selling out quickly, so hurry and get your tickets while you still can. Unfortunately, we had to cancel the HOA trip to Asheville to take part in the Biltmore Candlelight Christmas due to the hurricane flooding there. Our prayers go out to the people suffering there, and we’ll be sure to help them out by visiting next year.
The fall also brings us the season to vote. Besides the federal, state and local elections, the POA has two seats that are opening up. The HOA will hold a Candidates’ Forum where the seven POA board hopefuls will have a chance to introduce themselves and tell what they’ll do for Tellico Village, answer two questions that they’ll be given a chance to prepare for, and answer questions from the audience. Come to the event on October 30 at 4:00 PM at the Tellico Village Community Church and learn who will be your candidate.
The HOA will hold its annual business meeting at the Social on November 12. All of the board member positions are up for vote. Several, including the President, Programs, Event Planning and Communications are still looking for candidates. So, if you’re bored and looking for something to do and want to meet new people and really learn what’s going on in the community, please give me or another board member a call. The HOA membership will also be voting on some proposed changes to its bylaws during the business meeting. Come and take your part in running your HOA.
The Tellico Village Neighborhood Watch is moving to the POA to take advantage of POA capital assets, the POA’s official relationships with surrounding communities and the POA’s superior communications with the entire Tellico Village Community. This change will make the Neighborhood Watch a more effective organization to support our Village. The only change that you’ll see will be the way the Neighborhood Watch communicates with its supporters. Stay tuned for more information from Sherry LE and the Neighborhood Watch team.
Finally, and most importantly, I want to thank the hundreds of volunteers that make this community run. The HOA (and lots of other organizations) could not exist without the volunteers that are its engine. I know that your time is valuable and every minute that you give is taken from something else. However, I hope that the relationships that you make with fellow volunteers and the results that you see in a better community make it more than worthwhile. The time, talent and energy that you freely give continuously astound me and I am thankful to just be a part of it.
Harry Rucker, Tellico Village HomeOwners Association President
